H Village Features
Communal living of
5 students in one unit
Build lifelong friendships with fellow students
who’ve come together from
both Japan and abroad
The greatest attraction of the H Village is living together with fellow SFC students from within and outside of Japan who are full of individuality. Five residents live in one unit, intellectually stimulating each other and putting “living while learning, and learning while living” into practice. You’re sure to make rich memories and lifelong friends that you will never forget, even long after graduation.
*Units are single-sex only
Private space is
important
You can keep your privacy and
have valuable alone time
Dormitory life and communal living in a unit sounds interesting, but you probably have some concerns, right? Don’t worry. In addition to the spaces shared by the five residents in the unit, the bedrooms are private, so you can cherish your privacy and spend quiet time by yourself.
Make full 24-hour
use of the campus
“Living at H Village”
means “Living at SFC”
In the morning, wake up in your room and have breakfast in the cafeteria. If you get up early, go for a jog along the Mobius Ring (a circular road) that encircles the campus, or take a walk while watching the ducks relaxing in the quiet duck pond. No stress of crowded trains or bus lines—even if you’re not a morning person, it’s just a short run over to your first-period class. After lunch with friends in a vibrant atmosphere, you can even go back to your room for a nap during free time between classes, or go work out at the gym. Even if you study in the Media Center until late at night, you can walk back to your dormitory in just a few minutes while looking at the stars. Enjoy the rich natural areas of SFC’s campus like they’re your own backyard.
What you can learn through an
international dormitory life
Interact with your diverse peers and
become someone
who can be active
around the world
Dormitory life will be managed not only by the management company and the university, but also by the leadership of students, including Resident Assistants (RAs), unit leaders, and house leaders. This may be the ideal place to develop the ability to discover and solve problems that SFC values, in addition to the ability to take initiative and build consensus. You will acquire language and communication skills through direct contact with a variety of languages, cultures, and values, using languages such as Japanese and English that you may have in common, with friends from all over the world and throughout Japan. Above all, through communal living, you will be able to gain many important qualities from your experiences, such as compassion for others and responsibility as a student, as well as cooperation and trust from your peers, basic skills that will be essential to succeed in a global society.
Shared spaces for
communal living
Living and learning are so much more fun
when you’re together with everyone!
There are various common spaces in the dormitory that residents can use. These include a cafeteria where you can gather with friends, a learning commons, and a shared kitchen. Even if you’re living far away from your family and hometown friends, you won’t be alone.
Supporting Healthy Eating
A fulfilling student life
always starts with a well-balanced meal
Breakfast and dinner will be provided for dormitory students Monday through Sunday (except during year-end and new-year's holidays and August summer holidays (Obon).)
The H Village supports students' diet and health with healthy wholesome meals. We aim to create a cafeteria that can be enjoyed every day with a richly varied selection of menu items. In addition, food events such as local fairs and world's fairs will be held regularly, creating a space where students can naturally interact with their peers through "food".
SFC traditions made
by students
Let's build a new foundation at SFC together
with all dormitory students!
SFC opened in 1990. Many of you may have heard various anecdotes about the frontier spirit of the first-term and early SFC students. As a member of the first cohort of students of the newly-opened H Village, we hope that you will join us in creating the foundations for a new SFC. Through a system of unit leaders, house leaders, and Resident Assistants (RAs), we aim to manage the dormitory with student input in a way that is unique to SFC.
